The Uniden Grant XL mobile was without a doubt Uniden's best AM and SSB 40 channel model they've ever made.  Today, you simply can't find these from Uniden anymore.  In fact, Uniden doesn't make any SSB cb radios at all!  For some odd reason, they stopped the making any variations of the Uniden Grant in 2008.  The Grant XL (which was the version made in the Philippines) was the best of batch of the bunch. 

The Grant XL had a loud, clean transmit sound, however you often hear others comment on the quality of the receiver section in this radio in both AM and SSB modes.  This was one of a few modern day mobile radios that did it all well!   The Cobra 148 GTL was the closest competitor to the Grant. 

The Uniden Grant XL came with with a mic gain, volume, squelch control, RF gain, SWR reading, PA, SWR calibrate, AM/LSB/USB, clarifier, Automatic Noise Limiter, noise blanker, low/high tone switch, LED low/high wwitch, PA, and a channel selector.  Unfortunately uniden no longer makes a SSB radio to replace this gem.
